A 2018 Jimmy Award from AudioBeat!

After listening to the new Genesis Maestro ($30,000/pair in dazzling rosewood), I realize that Genesis’s owner and designer, Gary Koh, has not merely refined an exceptional loudspeaker but has reengineered it to a high standard.

Thank you, Jim Saxon, we are honored. Jim Saxon owned a pair of Genesis 500s and per Gary, “I am particularly chuffed that he said we took a hallowed design and made it better!!”

Genesis at CES 2018

Genesis is at the CES 2018 show in the same room – 29-233 in the Venetian Towers. This year’s analogue source is the VPI Vanquish direct-drive turntable with the brand new “Fat Boy” tonearm bearing the Transfiguration Proteus D cartridge with the diamond cantilever. Phono preamp is the Genesis Gold Phono.

The heart of the system is the brand new Viola Chorale integrated amplifier (price to be determined) sporting an optional DAC that was literally soldered together the day before Paul Jayson flew out to Las Vegas.

And of course, the loudspeakers are Gary Koh’s latest design – the Genesis Maestro. The latest generation of the beloved Genesis 5-series loudspeakers, they have been garnering a lot of praise for accuracy, neutrality and transparency (and simply awesome bass).

Christmas 2017 & New Year 2018

Remembering Arnie Nudell (1937-2017) founder of high-end audio.

I first met Arnie in April 2002, when I visited him to try to convince him to build me a pair of Genesis 1’s after his company closed down the previous year. He cooked us both lunch at home – a wonderful seafood risotto – and ended up convincing ME to purchase the assets and inventory of Genesis from the bank that had foreclosed on Genesis Technologies.

Genesis Advanced Technologies was started less than 4 months later with a manufacturing facility in Seattle, WA and we set up a lab for Arnie to continue with his design work in Eagle, CO. I hired Arnie as the Chief Scientist, where he worked until his retirement in 2006.

Through Genesis, his legacy lives on. We continue to push the state-of-the-art to develop innovative products on the foundation that Arnie built: the servo-controlled woofer, the four-tower line-source loudspeaker systems, the ribbon midrange and ribbon tweeters, and most of all the focus on music first.

Rest in Peace, Arnie.
